Why Apple?

Teaching & Learning

In terms of student competencies, the BYOD policy at Senior School builds on skills and knowledge learned on the Mac platform in Elementary School. Our 5th grade 1:1 laptop program runs on Mac, and we have found very few difficulties with Apple laptops.

Most successful 1-to-1 laptop programmes in other European schools are run on Mac, so students transitioning from those schools will already be familiar with software. Students and teachers using the same platform provides opportunities for teachers and fellow students to give more support, and helps with classroom management.

ISD Teacher Professional Development (PD) sessions are run on Macs, and Apple supports education, provides a 10% educational discount, and delivers PD to teachers.

Technical Support and Operability

We have had a low rate of technical issues with our school-owned Macs, and there are fewer viruses and spyware on Mac than on Windows. If a problem does arise, we have an Apple technician on-site & we can facilitate purchasing and repairs.

The Mac operating system, Mac OS, is made by Apple so there are no 3rd party driver issues. iLife and iWork come free with the Mac OS. iLife allows students to make high-end video & audio productions without spending money on software.

Apple laptops are robust and have a good build quality, good battery life, and high quality components. Mac OS X has very good wake-from-sleep mode. Very few crashes, quick start time and good memory and battery management.
